Totaling $25,840,000 in donated services
Located just steps from the Magnificent Mile, the Chicago River and Lake Michigan, Taproot’s Chicago office is energized by the culture and momentum of downtown Chicago. Over the past six years, our Chicago office has connected 300 nonprofits to design, technical, marketing, HR and strategy Service Grants that have helped build their organizational capacity and set them up for long-term success. Through this work, Taproot has delivered over $20 million in pro bono resources to the local nonprofit sector.
Each year, Taproot’s Chicago office manages about 75 Service Grants, in addition to carefully and strategically working to meet the new and deepened needs of the local nonprofit sector. But the need and demand for pro bono supports is far greater than the Service Grant program can provide alone. We look to broaden and more fully engage with local companies, funders and nonprofits in the years ahead to better serve the pressing needs of a nonprofit sector working to improve the lives of Chicago’s underserved.
Since its inception, Taproot has become the nation’s largest nonprofit consulting organization and is striving to build a global pro bono marketplace that extends far beyond the capacity of Taproot itself. Launching in fall 2012, Taproot’s new Powered by Pro Bono program will educate nonprofits on the value of pro bono support and teach them strategies to help manage, secure and scale their own projects.
Pro bono consulting
Taproot’s Service Grant program would not be possible without the countless hours of time donated by Chicago volunteers. These pro bono consultants use their professional expertise to help a nonprofit organization better function. Anyone with 3-5 years of professional experience in design, technology, marketing, human resources or strategy is encouraged to apply. All of our pro bono consultants attend an orientation before being matched with a nonprofit and placed on a project. Complete a profile to apply to be a pro bono consultant and be scheduled to attend an orientation.
Getting pro bono support
Taproot is a grant making foundation, but instead of cash grants, we give grants of service. These Service Grants pair nonprofits with professional volunteers – with the end goal of improving the nonprofit’s operations and ability to better serve their clients. We are now accepting applications for the December 6th grant deadline. Click here to check out our Service Grant offerings and click here to apply!
