The Taproot Foundation celebrated the opening of its Chicago office at Ghost Bar on May 25. Founded in 2001, the organization’s mission is to engage business professionals in structured projects or service grants as a means to strengthen the non-profit sector.

The local Internet and technology community showcased their support as the Taproot Foundation mixed professionals from the non-profit community with big-budget corporations such as Boeing, Motorola, Discover and Kraft.

“Taproot Foundation’s Chicago launch event was a huge success,” said Taproot Foundation managing director Vicky Nurre. “Chicago is known for its deep civic commitment. We’re delighted that executives are joining us to give what they know to the local non-profit community.”

The organization has selected the following five Chicago non-profit groups to receive their first round of service grants: the Chicago Jobs Council, the Cristo Rey Network, the Gads Hill Center, Inspiration Corporation and the Neighborhood Writing Alliance.
