Program Manager, Washington, DC
The Taproot Foundation is seeking a superb project manager with client-facing skills to run our Service Grant program in Washington, DC, providing pro bono marketing, technology, strategic management and human resources projects to local nonprofits. The Program Manager is responsible for overseeing the successful completion of a portfolio of Service Grant projects (meeting all required on-time and satisfaction metrics), assisting with the selection of nonprofits for the Service Grant program, and participating in local events and meetings to recruit volunteers and connect with potential community partners.

This position reports to the Deputy Director, East Coast and works closely with the Program Managers from all other Taproot Foundation offices.

Location
Taproot Foundation's DC office will be located in downtown Washington, DC.
Travel
Frequent local travel within the area will be required. The position will also require travel about three to four times per year to both San Francisco and New York, and once or twice a year to other Taproot Foundation offices across the country.
Compensation
Annual salary of $50-$60,000, medical benefits and vacation package.

Core Responsibilities (in order of priority)
- Project Management
- Provide daily management of 50+ projects to ensure progress and hit quality, on-time and satisfaction metrics
- Forecast project staffing needs and assist senior volunteers in staffing teams
- Escalate issues to the Regional Program Team as necessary
- Serve as a client-facing representative of Taproot Foundation to high-level nonprofit and corporate executives
- People Management
- Manage cross-functional teams of volunteer consultants
- Manage nonprofit clients with annual budgets of between $500,000 and $5,000,000
- Train volunteer Account Directors and nonprofit clients on the consulting process
- Manage a large pool of volunteers and meet assigned metrics for volunteer retention
- Develop and implement educational and networking events for volunteers, clients, and partners
- Presentation
- Lead monthly volunteer orientations and Account Director trainings
- Lead quarterly nonprofit roundtables
- Service Grant Application and Selection
- Key member of the team reviewing and awarding nonprofits with projects
- Screen nonprofit applications, read strategic plans, and make interview recommendations
- Interview senior-level executives from nonprofits and make final award decisions
- Write response letters and prepare volunteer team leaders to conduct site visits
- Community Development
- Represent Taproot Foundation at local speaking engagements
- Network to identify potential local partners
- Develop alliances with local capacity builders
- Participate in local community events, i.e. volunteer recruitment events, career fairs, etc.
- Institutional funder relationships
- Leverage contacts and networking opportunities to identify new potential foundation, corporate and government partners.
- Assist with relationship management of current foundations, corporations, and government partners.
Experience and Competencies
- Project Management
- Minimum of 3-4 years directly managing projects to completion on time and meeting quality standards
- Experience implementing and maintaining detailed project management processes to hit timing and quality metrics
- Ability to successfully prioritize & manage a portfolio of 50 projects at a time
- Ability to work independently, troubleshoot and make management decisions
- People Management
- Minimum of 2-3 years coaching clients and stakeholders to hit quality and satisfaction metrics for each project
- Ability to coach and train both clients and consultants to successfully initiate individual projects
- Ability to inspire, motivate and tactfully lead others in group or individual settings
- Experience successfully building relationships
- Presentation
- Energetic and confident public speaker
- Ability to explain detailed processes
- General Skills & Aptitudes
- Highly organized self-starter able to work as sole employee in an office
- Outgoing, friendly, people-focused attitude
- Demonstrated interest in the nonprofit sector as evidenced by volunteer activity and/or employment
- Experience managing marketing and/or web development projects or managing strategic management projects within a consulting firm environment
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Exceptional ability to learn quickly; top analytical skills
- Able to attend evening meetings 2-3 times per month
