Mission
Mission
The Taproot Foundation strengthens nonprofits by engaging business professionals in service.
Vision
Harnessing human capital to improve the human condition.
Background
In the past twenty years, the nonprofit sector has undergone a major transformation - with government resources stretched thin, we have come to rely on nonprofit organizations to play the critical role of tackling the most pressing social and environmental issues in our communities.
At the same time, the growing role of the nonprofit sector has uncovered the startling reality that the majority of organizations today lack the institutional strength to fulfill their potential. Resources for systems and infrastructure development, the cornerstones of institutional development, are anemic.
According to the Johns Hopkins’ Nonprofit Listening Post Project (2006):
The Taproot Foundation is responding by inspiring and engaging the business community to fill this resource gap – not by giving cash, but by leveraging the skills and talents of business professionals.

According to the Johns Hopkins’ Nonprofit Listening Post Project (2006):
- 91% of nonprofits reported a need for capital to invest in technology; only 37% were able to secure the needed capital.
- 67% of nonprofits reported a need for capital to invest in staff development; only 26% reported were able to secure the needed capital.
