Each Taproot Foundation Service Grant Program pro bono consultant plays a specific role on a 4-5 person project team. Click on a role below to find one that best matches your skills.

Account Director

Across all project types, Account Directors ensure that nonprofit clients receive excellent projects with high-quality deliverables. You are responsible for setting the project up for success, recognizing and solving complex team and client challenges, and motivating pro bono team members. Account Directors lead projects directly related to their experience. 

As an Account Director, you:

  • Manage teams and other team leaders
  • Negotiate executive and board-level relationships
  • Provide high-level guidance and coaching to clients and team members
  • Set the project up for success and manage challenges that may arise during the project

Analytics Consultant

Analytics Consultants lead the design of key program metrics and formatting of the program dashboard for our Program Measurement Service Grant. They translate the team's understanding of the program into defined, measurable metrics and ensure that the design of the dashboard is user-friendly.

As an Analytics Consultant, you:

  • Understand the client's program and can translate into key metrics for measurement
  • Have a hands-on role in designing a measurement dashboard
  • Take the lead on program dashboard training

Brand Strategist

Pro bono Brand Strategists help nonprofits develop high-level market positioning that allows them to differentiate themselves. You will lead the discovery process and create the strategic direction that will then guide the nonprofit organization’s visual identity, key messages, and naming. 

As a Brand Strategist, you:

  • Lead and conduct constituent interviews
  • Define high-level brand strategy
  • Present findings and recommendations to clients

Content Manager

Pro bono Content Managers assist the client with gathering, organizing, and creating copy for their website. The Content Manager also advises on creative elements such as tone and style, empowering client staff to create effective web copy. 

As a Content Manager, you:

  • Write some copy and advise on tone and style
  • Guide the Client in conducting a Content Audit, outlining content, and creating a content delivery plan
  • Work to ensure the timely delivery of all written content

Copywriter

As a pro bono Copywriter you help a nonprofit tell their story to reach their stakeholders and inspire support for their programs. You will be responsible for writing the copy for a nonprofit’s print collateral, key messages, or website. 

As a Copywriter, you:

  • Translate ideas and concepts into words
  • Take direction and constructive feedback from clients

Financial Analyst

Pro bono Financial Analysts help nonprofits evaluate their programs from a financial perspective. You can give them the information that will help decide if they should expand a particular program or open a new branch. You will collect and synthesize data and create a financial model to represent a nonprofit’s fiscal state.

  As a Financial Analyst, you:

  • Collect financial data from the nonprofit
  • Conduct complex quantitative, strategic, and financial analyses
  • Model financial data, often in MS Excel

Financial Consultant

Pro bono Financial Consultants lead the effort to help nonprofits evaluate their programs from a financial perspective. You can give them the information that will help them decide if they should expand a particular program or open a new branch.

 As a Financial Consultant, you:

  • Oversee and conduct research
  • Conduct complex quantitative, strategic, and financial analyses
  • Develop and present financial model

Graphic Designer

Pro bono Graphic Designers help nonprofits visually differentiate themselves and communicate their programs to people who need their services in the community. You will be the creative expert on the team responsible for designing a new visual identity, print collateral piece, or website layout.

 As a Graphic Designer, you:

  • Collaborate with marketers and take direction via creative briefs
  • Work extensively with Adobe CS

HR Generalist

Pro bono HR Generalists help nonprofits evaluate their HR function so they can operate more effectively and better fulfill their mission in the community. You will conduct interviews, assist with analysis to assess a nonprofit’s HR capacity and priorities, and implement some key action items to help them achieve their HR goals. Depending on the project, your work will focus on a variety of human resources that nonprofits employ, including staff, board members, and volunteers.
 
As an HR Generalist, you:

  • Coordinate and conduct interviews during discovery
  • Support analyses and assist in presenting recommendations
  • Work with a team to implement key recommendations

HR Strategist

Pro bono HR Strategists develop strategic HR directions so that nonprofits can improve their internal HR processes, giving them the ability to better serve their clients in the community. You will asses a nonprofit’s HR capacity and make recommendations for the future. Depending on the project, your work will focus on a variety of human resources that nonprofits employ, including staff, board members, and volunteers.

 As an HR Strategist, you:

  • Direct discovery work
  • Lead analysis of data and present to nonprofit clients
  • Guide clients in developing HR priorities and lead key implementation efforts

Internal Communications Manager

Pro bono Internal Communications Managers help nonprofits evaluate, retain, and strengthen their valuable staff. Specifically, you will help the nonprofit communicate this new initiative to internal staff.
 As an Internal Communications Manager, you:

  • Examine organizational dynamics to create employee communications
  • Train clients on communication plans

Marketing Manager

Pro bono Marketing Managers help nonprofits ensure that they are communicating the right message to their clients, donors, and partners so they can serve more people. You will be responsible for directing the discovery process with the nonprofit client and establishing the marketing strategy for a branding, print collateral, or website project. 

As a Marketing Manager, you:

  • Interview a broad array of constituents of the organization
  • Present findings to the nonprofit client
  • Determine the strategy for communication materials
  • Communicate with copywriters and graphic designers via creative briefs

Marketing Manager - Board Recruitment

Pro bono Marketing Managers on Board Recruitment projects help nonprofit organizations position themselves appropriately to build effective boards. You will work with pro bono executive-level recruiters to define the messaging and marketing strategy to attract potential board members. As a Board Recruitment Marketing Manager, you:

  • Develop key messages and marketing plans to support board recruitment
  • Review and analyze previous recruitment materials

Performance Management Analyst

Pro bono Performance Management Analysts help nonprofits evaluate, retain, and strengthen their valuable staff. You will set the strategy and lead the development of a customized performance management system for a nonprofit. As a Performance Management Analyst, you:

  • Conduct discovery interviews to determine evaluation needs
  • Develop a performance management system based on the organization’s strategic priorities and organizational culture

Photographer

Pro bono Photographers provide visual assets that help nonprofits communicate their mission and programs using images. Strong photography can inspire donated support from community philanthropists and communicate to potential clients.

 As a Photographer, you:

  • Lead onsite photo shoots
  • Work with a wide range of clients
  • Work closely with the graphic designer

Program Measurement Data Analyst

Data Analysts on Program Measurement Service Grants lead the analysis of existing program data and develop the program dashboard. As a data analyst, you:

  • Map and analyze the quality of existing program data
  • Define the data requirements for the dashboard
  • Build out the program dashboard

Project Manager

Across all project types, Project Managers ensure that the nonprofit clients are delivered work that is high-quality, on-scope, on time, and strategic. Pro bono Project Managers ensure that the needs of the nonprofit and team are met on a daily basis. You manage the day-to-day activities of a project directly related to your field, guiding a team to create deliverables that bring excellent results to the nonprofit client. 

As a Project Manager, you:

  • Lead cross-functional teams
  • Create and manage project plans
  • Keep the projects on-time and in-scope
  • Facilitate communication between clients and pro bono team members

Recruitment Associate

Pro bono Recruitment Associates help nonprofit organizations build strong, effective, and highly skilled boards. You will conduct discovery interviews to determine skills gaps on a nonprofit board and help create a recruitment plan.

 As a Recruitment Associate, you:

  • Conduct discovery interviews and help present findings
  • Make recommendations for recruitment plans
  • Help train the nonprofit on implementing the recruitment plan

Recruitment Strategist

Pro bono Recruitment Strategists help nonprofits identify and fill key roles to bolster the organization. On some projects, this may mean working to recruit nonprofit Board members to build strong, effective, and highly skilled Boards. On other projects, you will help recruit a professional to fill a pro bono volunteer role for a nonprofit in HR, marketing, or finance. You will evaluate the strategic goals of the organization and then create a plan and pipeline analysis to help the nonprofit attract skilled board members or professionals who can add significant value to the organization.

 As a Recruitment Strategist, you:

  • Lead discovery phase and perform gap analyses
  • Direct recruitment plan strategy
  • Train the nonprofit on implementing the new recruitment plan

Salesforce Business Analyst

Pro Bono Business Analysts ensure the development of the Salesforce database suits the needs of each individual nonprofit.

 As a Salesforce Business Analyst, you:

  • Compile results of Discovery interviews
  • Work with the Configuration Specialist to ensure the database build meets nonprofit needs
  • Prepare customized training guides

Salesforce Configuration Specialist

Pro Bono Configuration Specialists work to design and build the Salesforce database for nonprofit clients and build custom items within the scope of the project.

 As a Salesforce Configuration Specialist, you:

  • Set up user IDs for the nonprofit team to access the database
  • Plan and configure Salesforce database in line with the scope of the project through an agile development process
  • Help lead Salesforce training for the nonprofit

Salesforce Data Analyst

Pro Bono Data Analysts utilize their expertise to analyze a nonprofit’s existing database and design the new Salesforce database. You provide basic training for the nonprofit to use Salesforce and ensure they are equipped to best utilize Salesforce in the future.

 As a Salesforce Data Analyst, you:

  • Assess the existing database and work with the Configuration Specialist to design the new database
  • Migrate data into production from the Salesforce Sandbox, and test the data
  • Build a data dictionary and help develop the nonprofit training

Strategy Analyst

Pro bono Strategy Analysts help nonprofits present their financial data in a way that will resonate with current and potential supporters and key partners. You will provide data-driven analysis and recommend ways for the nonprofit to best present their financial and programmatic information.

 As a Strategy Analyst you:

  • Analyze the financial health of organizations in MS Excel
  • Recommend the most appropriate way to present data
  • Convey quantitative and qualitative data in a visual way

Strategy Associate

Pro bono Strategy Associates conduct research and synthesize data to help nonprofits better respond to community needs. You will help nonprofits identify their internal strengths and weaknesses, research organizations doing similar work, or develop a balanced scorecard to help organizations gauge the progress they’re making towards reaching their goals.

Strategy Consultant

Training Specialist

Pro bono Training Specialists help nonprofits evaluate, retain, and strengthen their valuable staff. You will create and deliver employee and manager training for implementing a performance management system. 

As a Training Specialist, you:

  • Create a training program that enables the nonprofit to implement a customized performance management system
  • Conduct training for the nonprofit client to successfully implement the system

WordPress Web Developer

Pro Bono Web Developers are responsible for the coding and implementation of website projects for nonprofit clients. The Web Developer works with a creative team to create a website using the WordPress CMS, meeting the needs of the client.

 As a Web Developer, you:

  • Build out the front end of a nonprofit WordPress website
  • Advise the nonprofit client on installation, maintenance and security tasks.
  • Work closely with the Content Manager and Graphic Designer
