Together, we can mobilize America’s millions of business professionals to give what they know – their valuable skills – to help local nonprofits strengthen our communities.

The Pro Bono Awards galvanizes and grows our combined efforts and recognizes the unique, inspirational and evolutionary contributions of companies that are leading the effort.

While pro bono service has been an integrated part of the legal profession for years, it is a relatively new idea for the rest of the business community. As companies begin to explore the option, it is helpful to first understand the fundamental business case that justifies investing in a pro bono program.

Ann Moore, Chairman & CEO of Time, Inc. accepts the leadership award on behalf of Time Warner and challenges the business community to promote pro bono service:

"It’s all about being the kind of company that can attract great people, develop them and energize them. You aren’t going to get the best people unless you make them proud. Our Taproot pro-bono projects give our people experiences they might not otherwise have and they put them together with people they might not otherwise meet..."

Chronicle of Philanthropy: As nonprofit groups seek to accomplish their missions as efficiently as possible, they often look to corporations for help. Corporations have far more to offer than just dollars: their expertise in business strategy, operations, technology, marketing, human resources, finance, and many other areas...

Writers to the Rescue (WTR), The McGraw-Hill Companies’ pro bono program, provides nonprofit organizations with the services of writers, editors, communication and/or public relations specialists from The McGraw-Hill Companies on a volunteer basis. The program addresses the fact that many nonprofit organizations do not have the staff to produce important communications materials that fit within their larger program, fundraising and capacity-building strategies.

Salesforce.com has recognized that its employees are in the unique position to provide high value expertise to nonprofit organizations and enhance technology adoption. While the Foundation donates licenses of salesforce.com to qualified nonprofits, employees assist nonprofits with the adoption and integration of the technology, increasing the internal capacity of the nonprofit and enabling it to better achieve its social mission.
