FAQs

I’ve applied for a Service Grant from Taproot. Can I still use the Powered By Pro Bono trainings too?

Yes! As we’ve described above, three of our Service Grants are actually designed in a way to help your organization get started on its path to being Powered by Pro Bono. Even if you’ve applied for a different grant at Taproot, going through any Service Grant can be a great way to learn about pro bono, experience it first-hand, and take your first step to being Powered By Pro Bono.

What are the Powered By Pro Bono Service Grants?

There are three grants in our Service Grant program that are designed to help you leverage pro bono resources and kick-start your organization to be fully Powered By Pro Bono. These grants are available to nonprofits in the San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, or Washington DC metro areas.

  • Volunteer Management helps you identify ways to capitalize on what your volunteer program currently does well and develop customized opportunities to make key improvements. Our pro bono consultant team will work closely with you to determine the best ways to manage your volunteer workforce, including how to align volunteer work with your mission, who the right people are to recruit, where to find them, how to retain the best of them, what tools they need to succeed, and how to measure success.  Read more.
  • Powered by Pro Bono—HR, Powered by Pro Bono—Finance, and Powered by Pro Bono—Marketing help your organization maximize performance by exploring and creating new ways to use volunteers in internal capacities. Our pro bono consultant team works with you to develop a new volunteer role and to design a pilot process for recruiting and engaging a volunteer in that area.  Read more.
  • Board Recruitment helps you assess your organization's board needs, articulate an ideal board structure, and identify the types of skills you need based on your strategy. Then, our pro bono consultant team works with you to define roles, identify methods for sourcing and evaluating candidates, and market the opportunity to appropriate audiences.  Read more.
